Earthquake in Peru Generates Response from Dominicans

LIMA, August 27, 2007---More than 100,000 people have been left homeless, as more than 34,000 homes were destroyed after an 8.0 earthquake rocked southern Peru on August 15. The death toll is still climbing as the dead are recovered from underneath collapsed buildings. At least 500 are known to have perished. Dominicans are a sigificant presence in Peru and are responding to the tragedy. READ MORE

New Dominican Journal Published

COLUMBUS, OH, August 27, 2007-- A new scholarly journal entitled Dominican Studies has just been published by The Center for Dominican Studies at Ohio Dominican University. the journal is available at no charge. Three major scholars offer insight into the traditions of the Dominican Order; the relevance of Isaiah's message for the contemporary preacher; and a critical look at Yves Congar book on poverty and power in the Church. Dominicans Richard  Schenk, OP, Th.D , Carol Dempsey, OP, Ph.D., and Thomas O’Meara, OP, Ph. are featured scholars.

Mission San Jose Dominican Brings Vital Hope and Medicine to Her Homeland in VietNam

MISSION SAN JOSE, CA - August 27, 2007--- Sister Linh Dao’s eyes sparkle as she relates that she has just returned from a 14-day medical mission to Vietnam, where the good that she and her team did continues. Born in VietNam, she returns to her homeland to treat the poorest of the poor in the rural villages and in a leper colony. Her mission is bring hope and the healing power of faith to her people.
