A Dose of Dominican Preaching

New Preaching Website Offers Audio and PodCast Homilies

ST LOUIS, MO -- March 26, 2007--- A new and innovative preaching tool offers a daily homily you can listen to on your computer. The site called the Word (www.word.op.org) features Dominican preachers from around the world, making it a truly global Dominican website.

Scott Steinkerchner, OP (St. Albert) who initiated the project said, "There are several features that will make the site stand out. Drawing from the richness of our entire, global Dominican family, we can offer a richness of perspectives that few other groups could hope to match, and all of them from top-notch preachers." Scott is the Internet Promoter for the Dominican Order.

The site features daily reflections by men and women, priests, religious and lay people, married and single. "All of whom are theologically astute, dedicated to the Church and its mission to preach the Good News, and acknowledged by their peers as excellent preachers," said Scott.

Because the preaching on the site can be heard, the site can reach into every household with a computer and internet access, especially for people who might not have access to good preaching in other venues. Think senior citizens, shut-ins, and the unchurched. Think young people who do not attend Mass regularly.

The reflections include a thematic "tag" that allows one to search the archive for a particular topic.

The creators hope to use podcasting technology to attract users who are technological at ease with iPods or similar MP3 music players. The site allows you to download the day's reflection automatically each morning and listen to it on your way to work or whenever convenient.

"For these reasons, we expect the Word to become the premier place for Catholics to hear daily preaching on the internet," Scott added.

At the present time the site is in English with plans to replicate the site in other languages as well.
