Federation Planners Meet

ADRIAN, MI -- Thirty-four representatives of the Federation of Dominican Sisters USA met March 16-18 at Weber Center, Adrian MI to set goals for 2007-2011.  The following goals and objectives were affirmed.

GOAL 1:        TO CLAIM AND PROMOTE OUR PREACHING CHARISM

A.  Be aware of and cooperate with the efforts of the Dominican Call to Justice, the Promoters of Preaching, and the Dominican International Commission on Preaching.

B. Focus our contemplation (study, prayer) and conversation around our identity as preachers of the Word.

GOAL  2:    TO NURTURE AND CELEBRATE RELATIONSHIPS WITHIN THE DOMINICAN FAMILY

A. Seek new and creative ways to communicate and collaborate.

B. Support inter-congregational gatherings and encourage the continuance of and   participation in Federation Chapters, Convocations, and Study Days.

Action steps for the objectives were discussed and agreed upon.  The Representatives delegated the Coordinating Committee (Michaela Connolly, Margaret Mary Kennedy, Mary Virginia Leach, Carolyn Wolfbauer, and Francine Schwarzenberger) to compose the final draft.  The goals, objectives, and action steps will be presented for affirmation at the Convocation in Chicago, April 24-27, 2008.

Michaela Connolly reminded us that “We focused on Federation for Life because when it came into being, the Federation was seen as something that would change and evolve in response to new needs and changes in Dominican life in the US.  We see it as something that can serve as a container to hold the dreams of all the different entities, movements and evolutions taking place in US women’s congregations at this time in our history.”

The Federation will continue to support and connect members at the grass roots level, and be a vehicle for communication, especially on behalf of justice.
