International Congress of Lay Dominicans Launch Website


December 11, 2006--A new website has been launched to share information about the March 17-24, 2007 International Congress of Lay Dominican Fraternities to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This Congress will be the first such International Congress held since Montreal in 1985. READ MORE

Emerging Nuclear Threats Draw New Concerns
and New Voices

December 11, 2006--- From one coast to the other, Dominicans are signing on to a new effort against nuclear arms. The nuclear issue has gained new urgency with the emergence of North Korea's recent nuclear testing and a continuing threat from India. The San Rafael Dominicans and Dominican Sisters of Sparkill added their voices to the new concern.

Madison Bishop Elected Chairman of
Board of Visitors for School of the Americas

FORT BENNING, Ga. (CNS) -- Bishop Robert C. Morlino of Madison, Wis., was elected chairman of the board of visitors of the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation at Fort Benning. He replaces Ambassador Jose S. Sorzano, who has been serving as chairman. His continued board membership was term-limited.

Eucharistic Missioner Participants in WCC Panel
on Global Conflict and Violence

Eucharistic Missionary Dominican, Sr. Rachel Sena,OP was among other panelists at a consultation at the World Council of Churches (WCC) meeting in Cret-Berard, Puidoux, Switzerland. The meeting took place December 5-8, 2006. The meeting is an ongoing effort to facilitate theological reflection on global conflict and peace within the context of the WCC Decade to Overcome Violence. READ MORE

Dominican Publications: 800 Years of Contemplative Life

December 11, 2006 ---Religious Life Review, a journal published by the Irish Dominicans has recently released its Nov/Dec edition, which celebrates eight hundred years since St. Dominic set up what was to emerge as the first community of Dominican Nuns, in Prouilhe, France, in December 1206. This issue includes an interview with fr. Carlos Azpiroz Costa and other worthwhile articles.
