New Vocations Among Ocean Pacific Dominicans

September 11, 2009 -- In somewhat unrelated ways, but still very much connected, three Dominican congregations on the west coast recently celebrated new vocations.

Dominican Sisters of Tacoma, WA
Sr. Senaida Rivera, OP (Tacoma) made her First Profession on August 8, at St. Patrick Church in Tacoma. Senaida had journeyed with the Tacoma Dominican Community for several years when she lived in Bend, Oregon. Sister Mary Buttimer was ministering in the parish as RCIA Director and was Senaida’s first contact with the community.  Her continued attraction to the Dominican charism impelled her to request entrance in the community.  She spent last year at the Collaborative Novitiate in St. Louis.  Following profession she will continue her studies in the area of human services.  Sister Pat Hanvey, Amityville, Senaida’s director at the CDN was present for the profession as were Sisters Cyndie Cammack and Roselli Tria from San Rafael.

Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose

Also on the Feast of Saint Dominic, Sr. Gloria Marie Jones, OP, prioress of the Mission San Jose Dominicans, received the First Profession of Sister Dulce Sari Aguilar Rodriguez and Sister Mary-Han Ngoc Nguyen in a multicultural Eucharistic Celebration with Most Reverend Salvatore Cordileone, the newly installed Bishop of Oakland presiding.

The congregation also recently celebrated the reception of the Habit by Hermana Julieta Puente at the first Chapter of the Mission San Jose Dominicans’ newly formed Province in Mexico in July.  Two candidates, Laura Concepcion Ramirez Sanchez and Ursula Abigail Perez Neri, were welcomed into the Congregation by the new Provincial Prioress, Josefina Rodríguez Silva.
