corporate stances

In keeping with the documents that outline the Social Teaching of the Catholic Church, we have made public statements on compelling issues of human life and dignity. Here are some of the concerns of the Dominican Sisters of St. Rose of Lima:

Closing the “School of the Americas”

We, the Dominican Sisters and Associates of Oxford, unite our voices in calling for the closing of the SOA/Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation at Fort Benning, Georgia. We commit ourselves to speak out against the opening of the institution under any name and in any location as it perpetuates violence in our world.(Community Assembly 2003)

Trafficking of Human Persons

We, the Dominican Sisters and Associates of Oxford, oppose trafficking of human persons for any purpose (sex, prostitution, forced marriages, domestic servitude, forced labor) and view trafficking as hideous exploitation and violation of human rights and in direct opposition to Gospel values.
(Community Assembly 2002)

Iraq

We, the Dominican Sisters and Associates of Oxford, stand in solidarity with the people of Iraq. We urge our government to end the bombings and to lift the economic sanctions that destroy and kill innocent children, women and men. We further urge our government to replace these actions with economic restitution and creative diplomatic solutions.(Chapter 2001)

Debt Cancellation

We, the Dominican Sisters and Associates of Oxford, add our voice to the cry of the poor and call for the just cancellation of the international debt, especially of the most highly economically impoverished nations, which is crippling developing peoples. In the Biblical spirit of Jubilee, we urge the governments of the economically richest countries, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and all other global lending institutions to free the economically poor from this yoke passed on to them from previous generations. (Community Chapter 2001)

Sacredness of Human Life

We, the Dominican Sisters and Associates of Oxford, hold that all life is sacred. We reverence human life from conception to natural death. We oppose abortion, assisted suicide, euthanasia, capital punishment, and any other forms of denigrating or extinguishing human life. We affirm the dignity of the human person at every stage of life.(Community Chapter 2001)
