School Action Plans 2014

We the preachers of Albertus Magnus High School, Bardonia, New York, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  • To be more involved in creating a stronger Dominican community;
  • To form a preaching team;
  • Raise awareness of the different ways of preaching.

We the preachers of Colegio San Antonio, Isabela, Puerto Rico, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  • Continue the preaching in our school in the charism of St. Dominic through diverse spiritual activities and community service, as we learned this week;
  • Work together as a Dominican family with Colegio Santisimo Rosario of Yauco, PR, to inspire and help others to grow in the love of Christ.

We the preachers of Colegio Santisimo Rosario, Yauco, Puerto Rico, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  • Make every morning prayer more meaningful;
  • To teach more about the Dominican way of preaching—4 pillars, preaching through the arts;
  • To involve more students in the help to the community;
  • Make a preaching group.

We the preachers of Dominican Academy, New York, New York, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  • By including the activities that we’ve learned during our prayer services and masses and integrate them into our school’s daily life;
  • We also wish to build a stronger and wider sense of community at Dominican Academy by staying in touch with the other Dominican schools we have formed bonds with;
  • Finally, we plan to educate our student body on the roots of our school more extensively by dedicating a day to celebrate and appreciate the Dominican tradition and where we come from.

We the preachers of Dominican High School, Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  • Add monthly prayer services to our annual calendar;
    Say the Dominican blessing over the PA;
  • Encourage service hours;
  • And to remind our school what the Dominican pillars are.

We the preachers of Edgewood High School, Madison, Wisconsin, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  • Hosting Dominican Identity Day featuring an introduction to the 4 pillars presented by members of the Dominican family including discussion of the Signs of the Times;
  • Inspiring fellow Edgewood students on class retreats to learn and make their faith personal;
  • Incorporate creative influence as we plan and lead liturgical prayer.

We the preachers of Fenwick High School, Oak Park, Illinois, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  • To educate the student body about the 4 Dominican Pillars, inviting them to understand the backbone of our tradition in a new light;
  • To educate the student body about the lives of Dominican Saints, highlighting how they continue to influence us today;
  • To incorporate the “signs of the times” into our class retreats;
  • To infuse the creative aspect of preaching into our school’s approach to prayer.

We the preachers of Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, Springfield, Illinois, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  • To increase involvement in the SHG community of faith through:
  • Our prayer partner sisters at our motherhouse;
  • Our days of prayer;
  • Emphasizing the four pillars;
  • Our sister schools;
  • And, our OP Teen meetings.

We the preachers of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, La Canada, California, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  • We at FSHA would like to continue saying the Our Father in “our heart language” and give those at FHSA the same ability to do so. We have boarding students from all over the world and we think it would be a great way to integrate them into the masses even more;
  • We would also like to bring in the water ceremony as a means of unifying our school at the first all school mass of the year. We believe that it would be a great tradition to begin at our school;
  • Lastly, we want to incorporate a service day for each grade to reach out and help those in need.

We the preachers of Immaculate Conception Academy, San Francisco, California, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  • Share what we have learned about the signs of the times with our community;
  • Create a four pillar presentation for new students;
    To begin to touch others’ hearts through two service programs;
  • To include the creative arts on retreats and liturgies.

We the preachers of Marian Catholic High School, Chicago Heights, Illinois, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  • We will promote community in our school using this year’s theme, “One heart and mind.”
  • We will help our classmates to become more excited about their faith and school’s Dominican identity;
  • We will enhance the prayer life of our school through more dynamic liturgies and interactive prayer experiences;
  • We will engage in more meaningful and direct service to our local community.

We the preachers of Mount St. Dominic Academy, Caldwell, New Jersey, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  • By bringing the traditions of the Rosary, Reconciliation, and Adoration back to our student body;
  • Diversifying our liturgical music for all prayer services and masses which this conference has inspired us to do;
  • By expanding our annual Dominican Day to include preaching through the arts, service, and prayer.

We the preachers of Our Lady of the Elms, Akron, Ohio, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  • By revitalizing the true Dominican identity in our student body;
  • By introducing interfaith dances;
  • By starting Dominican Day tradition;
  • By sharing the Stop…Go…St.OP principle with other members of our student body;
  • By forging a stronger relationship with the Dominican Sisters of Peace.

We the preachers of Queen of Peace High School, Burbank, Illinois, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  • Creating an awareness program for sustainability in our school community;
  • Re-energizing the prayer life in our community through the development of a stronger liturgy team and establishing a Dominican Preaching team;
  • Preaching the creative arts by incorporating: Taize, water color, and mandalas into the retreat experiences of our community.

We the preachers of Regina Dominican High School, Wilmette, Illinois, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  • We will add prayer services to the school calendar to broaden religious horizons of community;
  • We will set up regular opportunities for service projects sponsored by the Dominican preaching team;
  • We will share our experiences from this Dominican preaching conference.

We the preachers of Rosary High School, Aurora, Illinois, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  • We will develop a plan for monthly Eucharistic Adoration in our school chapel;
  • We will learn more about the Springfield Dominican Sisters who sponsor our school by visiting the motherhouse.

We the preachers of Sacred Heart High School, Los Angeles, California, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  • Representing the cultures of our familia in our use of language and song in our prayers;
  • Taize prayer at our Junior retreat;
  • Becoming aware of the needs of our community and finding new ways to respond.

We the preachers of San Gabriel Mission High School, San Gabriel, California, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  • By bringing our liturgies to life such as gospel dramas, alternating means of preaching, and emphasizing our Dominican charism.
  • In doing so, we hope to promote unity amongst our mission sisters and strengthen the faith community within our school.

We the preachers of St. Agnes Academic High School, College Point, New York, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  • Create a powerpoint presentation about this week’s experience and share it with the freshmen and sophomore classes;
  • To create a Young Dominican program that will encourage and inspire others to embrace the four pillars of Dominican life and the Dominican charism of preaching.

We the preachers of St. Agnes Academy, Memphis, Tennessee, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  • As Dominican retreat leaders, we commit to bring to these upcoming retreats a new sense of community;
  • We will reassure then that not only their fellow classmates, but also students around the world share the same Dominican values;
  • Specifically, we will bring art in our retreats and incorporate interfaith dancing to educate them spiritually and physically.

We the preachers of St. Agnes Academy, Houston, Texas, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  • Integrate the 4 pillars more visibly in our school community and in our everyday lives;
  • Foster a community of authenticity that is more accepting of everyone and their differences starting with the example of the Preaching Team.

We the preachers of St. John the Baptist High School, West Islip, New York, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  • Connect with our Dominican family on Long Island by visiting the Sisters of Amityville;
  • Create a mini-documentary about our experiences to share within our school community;
  • Use what we have learned to bring the Dominican pillars into school prayer services through student-led liturgies.

We the preachers of St. Mary’s Dominican High School, New Orleans, Louisiana, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  • To embrace diversity in our school and raise awareness of social justice issues particular to our region;
  • To enhance spiritual growth in our school with times for adoration and inter-active prayer services;
  • To increase knowledge of Dominican life and introduce new ideas into class retreats.

We the preachers of St. Pius X High School, Houston, Texas, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  • Introducing a “Preaching through the Arts” day using the conference model to bring a renewed appreciation for performing and fine arts to our campus;
  • To increase student led and student preached prayer services throughout the year;
  • To introduce Taize prayer to our school community through retreat experiences;
  • To network, collaborate, and plan with our southern regions Dominican schools to co-host a regional convocation to show support and solidarity with our brothers and sisters in the Dominican tradition.

We the preachers of St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Hammond, Louisiana, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  • Dominican preachers will form a DYA chapter at our school to strengthen our Dominican values;
  • Also, we will implement a Dominican charism retreat program for all our students.

We the preachers of Trinity High School, River Forest, Illinois, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  • Teach our Trinity community about the Dominican Pillars;
  • Learn more about our Sinsinawa Dominican heritage;
  • Continue to preach by sharing our thoughts and reflections during school liturgies and prayer services.
