School Action Plans 2010

We the preachers of Colegio San Antonio, Isabela, Puerto Rico, commit to preach the gospel based on our desire to establish strong bonds with the students that visited our school from Texas. Our school felt privileged by their stay in our midst. In return, we want to expand and show our high esteem for the students of St. Pius and St. Agnes and pay them a brief visit. They made a nice, short visit and brought their school symbols to us in a beautiful gesture and initiative of friendship to us. Now we wish to visit them in their own school surroundings and share a time of learning and socializing with them. Although is at arm’s length, we are hopeful to accomplish our goal.
We the preachers of Dominican Academy, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

1. Encourage our student sisters to be more involved in service by identifying service placements and promoting group participation.
2. Encourage more active participation by the student body by having each class plan and lead Mass.
3. Organize and lead a rosary-making workshop.

We the preachers of Dominican High School in Whitefish Bay, WI, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

 

We commit to returning our students and school community to their Dominican roots by:

  1. Prominently displaying the four pillars
  2. Sponsoring and organizing all-school assemblies on Dominican topics
  3. Coordinating with coaches and student group leaders to promote increased and meaningful community service
  4. Using technology in liturgies to promote greater participation
  5. Encouraging the use of more contemporary liturgical music in liturgies
  6. Sponsoring a session at our school’s open house about what it means to be Dominican
  7. Promoting the Dominican Preachers to incoming freshmen by having a table at their orientation day.
We the preachers of Edgewood High School, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

1. Random acts of kindness group
2. Let it known what are as preachers and the big network of schools we are part of
3. Share the strength/weakness hand gesture
4. Share the knowledge of what good our school does and what we can do to improve
5. Keep in touch with schools we meet here
6. Share experience with faculty/staff
7. Recruiting for next year
8. Continue our service to the community.

We the preachers of Fenwick High School, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

1. Help plan all school liturgies and include lively music.
2. Participating in the Feinstein Challenge to raise money and collect food for the hungry in our city.
3. Share what we learned by hosting our own mini preaching conference at Fenwick to expand our team and help us spread the word.
4. Plan and run the retreat days for freshman, sophomores and juniors.

We the preachers of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

1. By being more environmentally friendly by use of technology,
2. By including the message of St. Dominic in daily life, and
3. By creatively spreading the word of God more often.

We the preachers of Lacordaire Academy, Montclair, NJ, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

1. Create prayer services and liturgies which are more interactive through the use of imaginative music, movement and rituals,
2. Expand our service activities by making more opportunities available both in New Jersey and in the states of our Dominican sisters and brothers to foster “ActiVeritas”
3. Educate and Activate our school community to the plight of our Iraqi brothers and sisters. We will raise awareness and funds by making them a part of our Lacordaire Family through sponsorship of an Iraqi family.
4. Implement a Retreat team to encourage the continuation of unity between classes through additional opportunities to come together as one.

We the preachers of Marian Catholic High School, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

1. To spark interest in the scripture through creative presentation.
2. To promote the integration of classes through intentional fostering of community.
3. To encourage the student body to become involved in a variety of community outreach projects.
4. To be better role models to our fellow classmates by exhibiting activeritas.

We the preachers of Mount St. Dominic Academy, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

1. We will increase the use of visuals and interactive prayers in masses and prayer services to increase the energy level and participation of the student body.
2. We will organize class year service days to encourage student involvement in our community.
3. We will expand our morning prayer by announcing feast days of Dominican saints and special intentions for current events.
4. We will help educate the incoming freshman about the history and values of Dominican life.

We the preachers of Our Lady of the Elms, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

1. Promote student participation in all facets of school liturgies, especially student preachers giving the reflection after the gospel.
2. Start each class with prayer.
3. Increase attendance at weekly student-led prayer services.
4. Establish a Dominican Week to raise awareness of Dominican values and heritage.


We the preachers of Regina Dominican High School, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

 

  1. We will work on acknowledging and encouraging service among our community and will full-heartedly center our actions on Dominican values.
  2. We will work to better incorporate the “Veritas” theme throughout our school activities and work together with other student groups to achieve the universal aspect of the Dominican tradition.
  3. We will work to have a more active role in the planning of all school liturgies and our daily morning prayer in order to promote more enthusiasm among not only the student body, but also the faculty and staff.
We the preachers of Rosary High School, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

1. We will coordinate and facilitate a school-wide community service project each quarter.
2. We will explore ways to bring together the congregation when we worship at school liturgies.
3. Continue to teach about the pillars through the “Picture a Preacher” project.

We the preachers of Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

1. Showing the feeder schools that Christianity is cool through a half-day retreat
2. Deepening, strengthening and reinforcing our Dominican identity in the whole student body
3. Touching the spirituality of the students during the school liturgies by making them more fun and energized.

We the preachers of San Domenico School commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

1. By integrating more fun and engaging activities in the monthly prayer services,
2. by sharing with our school what we have learned about the Dominican values and tradition,
3. By proposing to our school administration that we dedicate a day of service in our community
4. By forming a Campus Ministry Group to organize prayer services,
5. By being involved in selecting next year’s participants.

We the preachers of St. Agnes Academic High School, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

1. Planning an assembly on the 4 pillars,
2. Plan a volunteer day at school,
3. Form a committee of students to plan school liturgies incorporating what we experienced here.

We the preachers of St. Agnes Academy, Memphis, TN, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

1. Bringing the term Active Veritas to our campus and deepening our study of Dominican traditions,
2. Providing more variety and creativity in the way we pray on campus. We will do this by allowing more student participation in prayer services.
3. Bringing the idea of preaching through the creative arts to our campus.

We the preachers of St. Agnes Academy, Texas, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

 

  1. To meet with the preachers of St. Pius X to plan a Dominican week which will highlight the four pillars of Dominican spirituality and charism as well as vocations to religious life,
  2. Work in partnership with our school’s pro-life club to raise awareness about pro-life issues such as abortion, death penalty and care for the elderly,
  3. Sponsor gatherings where we will develop the pillars of study and prayer by studying the Bible and the lives of the saints.

We the preachers of St. Dominic Academy, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  1. Start a service trip as a community to help those more in need of our city by volunteering at domestic violence shelters similar to Catherine Cobb.
  2. Have student-driven prayer services in both planning and preaching throughout the year to increase involvement.
  3. Inform the school about the situation in Iraq with the violence and the refugees. Then collect toiletries and other necessary items for comfort, convenience and survival for these refugees to an agency.
  4. Focus on the 4 pillars of Dominican life to further educate the young women of our school, faculty and staff. The senior class would help the underclasswomen by tutoring them. The juniors would preach by getting involved in peer ministry and learning how to become a Dominican preacher. The sophomores would put prayer into use by saying and creating intercessions at school masses. Finally, by getting involved in both our school and outside our communities.
  5. Have a special day where we would initiate a project for our earth with our sister schools Mount St. Dominic Academy and Lacordaire Academy to both better the environment and form lasting friendships.

We the preachers of St. Mary’s Dominican High School in New Orleans commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  1. To continue to be a visible presence in our school including that the preaching team prepare and lead afternoon PA prayer,
  2. To provide more opportunities for service as a school community
  3. To educate the school community about the Millenium Development Goals.
We the preachers of St. Pius X High School commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

1. To plan a Dominican week which will highlight the 4 pillars of Dominican spirituality and vocations.
2. Incorporate acting out the gospels at retreat prayer.
3. Asking Jason Kimball, our mentor, to join our monthly preaching team formation meetings.
4. Talk about death penalty in the fall and human trafficking in the spring.

We the preachers of St. Vincent Ferrer High School, commit be the gospel. To inspire others actively live out their faith. To use our own unique, God-given talents, knowing that through our baptism we are Catholic first. Through becoming ourselves in Christ, we promise to truthfully proclaim our faith. Through prayer, we will get to know this faith. Through study, we will search out this faith. Through service we will be this faith and through community we are this faith.
We the preachers of Trinity High School, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

1. By using the Dominican pillars to create a better sense of vibrancy during prayer experiences at our school.
2. By sharing our own knowledge and enthusiasm with those around us in order to help our community better understand what it means to be Dominican.
3. And to better use the gifts and resources already available within our community in order to strengthen our Dominican identity.
