Dominican Leadership Conference
Annual meeting reflects Facets of Change

The 59th annual DLC meeting and 75th anniversary celebration was held Oct. 1–4 at the Maryknoll Sisters Center in Ossining, New York. In some ways, this meeting of the Dominican Leadership Conference seemed like many other gatherings of the Family: joyous noise, stimulating presentations, happy reunions among friends and getting to the work of preaching. But this year, even as the DLC celebrated 75 years as a leadership conference, it allowed space for the creation of a new organization: the Dominican Sisters Conference. Story by Anne Lythgoe, OP. Dominican Volunteers USA
Organization celebrates its 10th anniversary

On Sept. 25, current and former volunteers, staff, and sisters and friars who have supported the program came together to celebrate 10 years of Dominican Volunteers USA “Responding to the Mission.” The event took place at Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois. Participants at three simultaneous satellite events in Wisconsin, Minnesota and California joined us in spirit. READ MORE

NCEA President’s Award
Resilience, spirit of New Orleans Catholic schools honored

The Archdiocese of New Orleans received the NCEA President’s Award for its leadership and success in reopening schools after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The award was accepted on behalf of the archdiocese by Michael Begg, president of Archbishop Rummel High School, Metairie, Louisiana, and Dominican Sister Mary Rose Bingham, former principal of Cathedral Academy. Rosary Sunday
Fr. Juan Diego Brunetta speaks at 35th annual event

The 35th annual Rosary Sunday celebration was held Oct. 10 in Phoenix, Arizona. Fr. Juan Diego Brunetta, OP, was invited to preach. An article about the event, published in the Oct. 13 issue of The Catholic Sun, the newspaper of the Diocese of Phoenix, is featured on the Dominican Province of St. Joseph web site. READ MORE

Jubilee
Sister Mary Claire, 102, marks 80th Jubilee this year

Sister Mary Claire Maher, OP (San Rafael), joined other Dominican Sisters of San Rafael for a Jubilee celebration in July. Next month, she will celebrate her 103rd birthday. Catholic San Francisco ran an article Oct. 13 focusing on the Jubilee, and honoring the life of Sister Mary Claire, who taught for more than 70 years in the San Francisco Bay area. READ MORE

St. Mary’s Dominican High School
Students, teachers join in celebration of Living Rosary

The St. Mary’s Dominican High School community recently celebrated The Living Rosary in conjunction with Grandparents Day. Sponsored by the Drama Department, Christian Leadership Council and the Office of Dominican Catholic Identity, students acted out the Joyful Mysteries while mimes and narrators helped students and their grandparents apply those mysteries to everyday life.
