Feast of Saint Dominic
Searching for Saint Dominic in cyberspace

Editor's Note: As you know, Sunday, Aug. 8 was the feast of St. Dominic, founder of the Order of Preachers. Which inspired me to do some Googling, and I discovered that you can “connect” with Saint Dominic on Facebook (he has 1,863 fans). You can also read about Saint Dominic on Wikipedia and CatholicCulture.org. Also on Aug. 8, the Adrian Dominicans celebrated the final profession of Elise Garcia and the renewal of vows of Mary Jones and Jackie Stoll. Click here to watch a video of this event. The Sinsinawa Dominicans also celebrated the first profession of Gail Jagroop, and the final profession of Sister Tanya Williams.

Faith and Film
Inception, Winter’s Bone

Inception is the new hit movie from acclaimed writer-director Christopher Nolan, director of The Dark Knight. It’s a mixed bag of a movie, technically brilliant, with many clever touches, but overly long and dramatically confusing. Based on a novel by Daniel Woodrell, Winter’s Bone is directed by Debra Granik, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Anne Rosellini. They get all the details right in this harrowing tale, especially the haunting faces of the mountain people. Reviews by Tom Condon, OP.

The next Dominican Life | USA update will be published on Wednesday, September 1. Deadline for submission of articles/photos is Friday, August 27.
