Transfer of leadership celebrated July 3

The Adrian Dominican Sisters marked the transfer of leadership to a new Prioress and General Council during a special Eucharistic Liturgy held on July 3 at St. Dominic Chapel, (formerly Lumen Ecclesiae Chapel), at Siena Heights University. Taking office were Sister Attracta Kelly, OP, Prioress; Sister Tarianne DeYonker, OP, General Councilor and Vicaress; Sister Julie Hyer, OP, General Councilor and Administrator; Sister Corinne Sanders, OP, General Councilor; and Sister Kathleen Schanz, OP, General Councilor. Dominican friars elect Mulcahy as prior provincial

The Very Rev. Brian Martin Mulcahy, OP, was elected Prior Provincial of the Dominican Province of St. Joseph during the Provincial Chapter meeting held in June at Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island. Father Mulcahy, age 48, has served as the Vicar Provincial, or Socius, of the province since January 2009. READ MORE

Nashville congregation marks 150th anniversary

On Friday, June 25, an extremely hot day in Nashville, Tennessee, more than 1,400 people joined the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia for a celebration of their 150th Jubilee. Those attending included representatives of other religious communities, as well as families, friends, benefactors and students of the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia. READ MORE

High Schools Preaching Conference
12th annual event has highest attendance yet

“Activeritas!” is the word created by Michael Petro for the 12th Annual Dominican High Schools Preaching Conference that took place June 26–July 1 at Siena Heights University in Adrian, Michigan. Participants from 22 Dominican schools from across the United States and Puerto Rico gathered to deepen and discover again their Dominican spirit. READ MORE

Southern Dominican friars publish statement

At their chapter meeting in San Antonio, Texas, in May, the Dominican Friars of the Province of St. Martin de Porres published a statement in support of immigration reform. READ MORE

Pixar is back with Woody, Buzz, and the gang in Toy Story 3. In this funny, touching, and poignant film, Andy, owner of the toys, is preparing to leave home to go to college.
