Earthquake in Chile
Maryknoll sisters among those providing aid

Maryknoll, NY — Six Maryknoll sisters currently serving in mission in Chile, in Santiago and Coelemu, now turn their attention to helping provide relief for those affected by the massive earthquake of Feb. 27. While their ministries usually are with women and the elderly, they now work with colleagues to assess the damage and determine how to provide for those in need. READ MORE

Sister Theresa Rickard named president of RENEW

Plainfield, NJ — RENEW International, a Catholic not-for-profit organization based in Plainfield, NJ, has appointed Sr. Theresa Rickard, OP, to serve as both president and executive director. The formal appointment was made by Most Rev. John J. Myers, J.C.D., D.D., Archbishop of Newark, in his capacity as the chairman of the Corporate Board of RENEW International, and with the recommendation of its Board of Trustees. READ MORE

would hold Israel “accountable for any statements or actions that inflame tensions or prejudice the outcome of talks.” As we approach Tax Day (April 15), The U.S. Dominican Palestine Coordinating Committee encourages Dominicans and our friends to press the Obama administration and Congress for Israeli accountability and an end to U.S. military aid to Israel. A pilgrimage designed for lay Dominicans and friends of the Dominican order has been organized and set for Nov. 4-18, 2010. “A Pilgrimage in Honor of St. Dominic and Our Lady” includes visits to sites in Spain, France and Italy that are historically significant to the life of St. Dominic and the founding of the Order of Preachers. Alumni reunite at Colegio San Antonio in Puerto Rico

National Dominican High Schools Preaching Conference alumni from three Dominican schools were recently reunited in Isabel, Puerto Rico, when members of the preaching teams from St. Agnes Academy and St. Pius X High School in Houston, Texas, made a pilgrimage to the Colegio San Antonio in Isabela, Puerto Rico. Prison Preaching Network established

Dominicans have been active in prison ministry from the very beginning of their religious experience in the 13th century. Today, around the world, a considerable number of Dominican priests, sisters, and lay people continue this long tradition, bringing the mercy and love of Jesus to the lives of prisoners. A new virtual network (YahooGroup) has been established for those working in prison ministry. READ MORE

Call for ‘moral authority’ influenced by Dominican education

Nathan Mihelich, communications director for the Dominican Sisters of Springfield, Illinois, recently traveled to Jordan as part of an ecumenical press tour. During a press conference with the former Crown Prince of Jordan, HRH Prince El-Hassan bin Talaal, Mihelich writes that the Prince "shared that his Dominican education taught him the traditions of other religions, concepts and philosophies.” READ MORE
