Dominicans Devastated As Tsunami Hits Solomon Islands

SOLOMON ISLANDS April 8, 2007 -- On Monday, April 2, an earthquake measuring 8.1 hit the western Solomon Islands.  The resulting tsunami hit the far west of the Solomons.  Dominican friars and sisters have been devastated by the flooding and have lost most of their possessions. No injuries have been reported among the Dominicans, but 34 citizens are dead recovery efforts are slow and water is a critical factor in relief efforts. READ MORE

International Congress of Lay Dominican Fraternities

BUENAS AIRES, ARGENTINA – April 9, 2007-- Gathered at El Cenaculo Retreat Center, from March 17-24, were the leadership of 55 provinces and vicariates out of 71 worldwide. Many paid dearly to get there, either in money or in time and struggle. This was, however, more than just a gathering of the Lay Dominican leadership. He was chosen from a narrowed field of four Dominican priests by the governing body of priests and religious brothers in Chicago that sponsors Aquinas Institute. He succeeds Fr.
