Mission Statement

The Dominican Leadership Conference Communicators Network promotes the preaching mission of the DLC congregations and provinces through support, education and collaboration in the creative use of all forms of media.

The Dominican Call to Justice document and the Universe Story are source materials and contribute to the context from which we pursue our goals.

Goals approved at the 2007 OPCOMNET Meeting

Objective A: Tell the Dominican stories in a way that reflects Gospel values and issues of justice in the world.

Action Steps

1. Work collaboratively on the following:
    March 19th marking the beginning of the war in Iraq
    April 22 Earth Day
    August 8th, Feast of St. Dominic
    August 29th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
    September 21st  UN International Day of Peace;

Objective B: Develop effective communication strategies
Action Steps:

1. Report or submit at least six stories a year to Dominican Life | USA.
2. Prepare and distribute a series of stories on the Dominican Family recovery efforts in New Orleans.
3. Develop a follow up communication plan to above #2, including a re-visit to New Orleans.

Objective A: to build external awareness of Dominican Mission and Family

Action steps:
1. Each congregation/province will study strategic approaches to creating and maintaining media relationships.
2. Broaden the use of the Dominican Family signature.
3. Explore "intermediate" local outlets eg. parish newsletters or theater ads)
4. Explore new internet venues, e.g. podcasting, YouTube, Wikipedia
Objective B: to build internal awareness of Dominican Family relationships and activities
Action steps:

1. Put all members of OPCOMNET on mailing list for newsletters, mailings, collateral material and e-mail/fax for press releases as appropriate to network (especially related to major issues)
