Sisters elect new leadership

During April 5-10, 2010, the Sisters of St. Dominic of Caldwell, New Jersey, came together for Chapter 2010. The first portion of the week was devoted to the Chapter of Life and Mission. The Chapter theme “Past is Prologue” shaped the Sisters’ contemplative dialogue during these Chapter sessions that included prayer and music, presentations of data and many vibrant discussions regarding life issues, e.g. housing options for aging sisters.

These sessions also explored mission and ministry issues, e.g. ongoing congregational sponsorship of Caldwell College, three academies (Jersey City, Caldwell, Upper Montclair), Link Community School (Newark), Senior Residences (Caldwell, Wayne), Genesis Farm Ecological Literacy Center (Blairstown). The concluding days of the week focused on prayerful rituals during which nominees for a new Leadership Team were named and engaged in conversation with the Chapter delegates. As the delegates concluded this first portion of Chapter 2010, many echoed the comment made by Sister Jane Marie, OP, “This was the most prayerful, contemplative Chapter we have ever had. It was a blessed week.”

On Saturday, April 10, Bishop Manuel Aurelio Cruz, D.D. presided at the Mass of the Holy Spirit in the Sisters’ Motherhouse Chapel. Immediately following the Mass, Chapter delegates officially opened the Chapter of Election. Sister Arlene Antczak, OP—elected to a second five-year term as Prioress—accepted affirmation and congratulations by Bishop Cruz. Sister Luella Ramm, OP accepted election as Vicaress. Sisters Patricia Stringer, OP and Elsie Bernauer, OP were elected as Councilors.

The official Transition of Leadership takes place on June 30, 2010.
