In Our Keeping
Register now for Dominican Archivists and Historians’ Conference

The 2010 In Our Keeping Conference will be held July 8–11, 2010, at The McGreal Center for Dominican Historical Studies at Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois. This year's theme is “Keeping and Telling the Dominican Story: Our Gift for the 21st Century.”

Presentations include:

  • History as Sacramental Remembrance, presented by Catherinian scholar Suzanne Noffke, OP. Known for her translations and interpretations of Catherine of Siena’s dialogue, prayers and letters, Sr. Suzanne also received the Wisconsin Historical Society’s 2005 Award of Merit for “Dominicans of Racine Wisconsin: Embrace the Swelling Wave.”
  • Changing History: Catholic Sisters and the American Church, Kathleen Sprows Cummings, PhD, University of Notre Dame, acting director of the Cushwa Center and author of “New Women of the Old Faith: Gender and American Catholicism in the Progressive Era.”

The program also includes:

  • A Skype session with Sr. Barbara Beaumont, OP, director of Sister Historians of the Order of Preachers (SHOP)
  • Writing the History of the Dominican Family: The Argentinean Process—Cynthia Folquer, OP, Director of the Institute of Historical Research, Santo Tomas de Aquino University, Tucumán, Argentina
  • Archives 101—Grant Gerlich, Archivist, McGreal Center
  • When the Historian Comes to the Archives—Prudence Moylan, PhD. Department of History, Loyola University
  • Technology and Archives—Steven Szegedi, University Archivist, Dominican University
  • Merging Archives: The Adrian, Hope, and Sinsinawa Experiences—Marilyn Francoeur (Adrian), Cecilia Murray (Hope), Pauline Ingram (Sinsinawa)
  • Making Dominican History in the 21st Century: The Perspective of Young Members of the Order of Preachers
