Dominican Institute for the Arts
Retreat for artists, gala evening fundraiser set for July

The Dominican Institute for the Arts (DIA) is sponsoring two inspiring and life-changing events that are part of the DIA's 14th Annual Gathering of Dominican Artists: a retreat for artists and those who appreciate art, and the DIA Art Gala Evening Fundraiser. Both events are co-hosted by Dominican Sisters ~ Grand Rapids and Dominican Center at Marywood.

Retreat: Feel the Flame – Catch the Fire – Burn with Peace!

The retreat will be held Wednesday, July 28 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday, July 29 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the chapel at the Dominican Center at Marywood, Grand Rapids, Michigan. Presenters are Sister Ann Willits, OP, and Father Jim Marchionda, OP.

A Dominican Sister from Sinsinawa, Wisconsin, Sister Ann is a preacher, author, poet, humorist and expert storyteller. Ann takes the simple stuff of life and makes it extraordinary. Her diverse audiences find laughter and fancy in her words as they meet the many faces of God through her gift of preaching.

Father Jim is a Dominican priest, preacher, composer, conductor, singer and woodwind instrumentalist. He offers parish missions, workshops, and concerts throughout the United States and abroad. Composer of more than 100 published sacred musical pieces, Father Jim's unique ministry successfully combines preaching with a professional career in sacred music.

When these two unique personalities get together, they will build up spiritual strength in the heart of the artist and art lover through their thoughtful, joy-filled delivery of Gospel truths. You won't want to miss this event!

The $100 fee includes lunch and a pass to Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park (The Chihuly glass sculpture exhibit is currently on display through Sept. 30). A $25 non-refundable deposit is required. Your $25 non-refundable check should be made out to DIA and sent to Dominican Center at Marywood, 2025 Fulton Street East, Grand Rapids, MI 49503. No overnight accommodations are available.

The registration deadline is July 15. For registration, additional questions or more information, email dcmreceptionists@grdominicans.org or call 616.458.3966 ext 5.
