AYCARDUS Project
Translation of Eckhart’s works a collaborative effort

In early 2010, the AYCARDUS Project launched an exciting venture to make accessible translations of Meister Eckhart’s works not available in English. This unique “academic co-operative” model fosters a collaborative online effort among scholars and serious students of this great Dominican mystic, Meister Eckhart.

Project coordinator Michael Demkovich, OP, author of Introducing Meister Eckhart, Ligouri 2006, is eager to recruit other Dominicans interested in this worthwhile undertaking. The ideas of Meister Eckhart are so valuable for our times and many of his most inspiring works are in Latin or Middle High German. Sadly, English speakers are unable to benefit from these works in their study, prayer, preaching and writing. This is an open forum to make such works within easy reach of the internet. There are a number of translation projects underway, including that of an excellent article by the Dominican Rupert Mayer, of Vienna on Eckhart, Aquins and Dietrich of Freiburg. Other translations in the works may be viewed online.

One little gem already available is Eckhart’s sermon for the Feast of St. Augustine. Translations of his sermons for Trinity Sunday and on Corpus Christi are in the works. For more information, visit the AYCARDUS Project web site or read the blog.
