Come and See
Adrian Dominicans host weekend event in August

If you’re a single Catholic woman, age 18 to 35, you could find no better opportunity to explore life as an Adrian Dominican Sister than at the next “Come and See” event, set for Thursday to Sunday, Aug. 5-8, 2010 at the Adrian Dominican Sisters’ Motherhouse Campus in Adrian, Michigan.

Arrival will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, with dinner following at 5 p.m. Along with prayer experiences and special talks on Dominican life, spiritual direction, and ministries, participants will be able to enjoy several special events. On Friday, they will travel to Cleveland, to view the national traveling exhibit, Women & Spirit: Catholic Sisters in America, on display at the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage through Aug. 28. The multi-media exhibit explores the profound impact that Catholic apostolic sisters have had on the United States, from the first arrival of the Ursulines in New Orleans in 1727 to the current work of some 400 communities of sisters throughout the nation. Included in the exhibit are mementoes and photos from the Adrian Dominican Sisters.

The weekend will also include special rituals for women in initial formation. At 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7 in St. Catherine Chapel, candidate Erin Muldoon will be received into the novitiate, beginning a two-year period of formal theological study, supervised ministerial experiences, and intense discernment of vowed life. Erin and current novice, Sister Xiomara Mèndez Hernández, will begin their canonical novitiate year at the Collaborative Dominican Novitiate in St. Louis, Missouri, later in August. At 10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 8, the Feast of St. Dominic, participants will attend a special Liturgy which will include the final profession of vows of Sister Elise García, OP, and the renewal of vows of Sister Mary Jones, OP, and Sister Jacqueline Stoll, OP. The Liturgy will be followed by a festive dinner.

Registrations are due Monday, Aug. 2. For a registration form, click here. For further information, contact Sister Durstyne Farnan, OP, Director of Vocations, at 517-266-3537 or dfarnan@adriandominicans.org.
