Elizabeth JohnsonMIAMI SPRINGS, FL - January 21, 2008--Barry University’s Theology and Philosophy Department, hosted a lecture by the 2008 recipient of the Yves Congar Award, Dr. Elizabeth Johnson, CSJ on Monday, January 14, on the main campus.

Johnson is an author, editor, teacher, and public lecturer in theology. Her main areas of research focus on the theology of God, Jesus Christ, Mary, the communion of saints, science, religion, the problem of suffering, ecological ethics, and issues related to justice for women.  She has delivered numerous lectures and workshops to church and academic groups on every continent except Antarctica and her work has been translated into German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, Dutch, Polish, Lithuanian, Korean, and Greek.  Elizabeth Johnson’s award-winning books include Consider Jesus: Waves of Renewal in Christology; She Who Is: The Mystery of God in Feminist Theological Discourse; Friends of God and Prophets: A Feminist Theological Reading of the Communion of Saints; The Church Women Want: Catholic Women in Dialogue; Truly Our Sister: A Theology of Mary in the Communion of Saints; and Dangerous Memories: A Mosaic of Mary in Scripture ,and her newest publication Quest for the Living God: Mapping Frontiers in the Theology of God.

The Yves Congar Award for Theological Excellence recognizes the contributions of contemporary theologians working, writing, and teaching. It is named after Cardinal Yves Congar, OP (1904-1995), who moved the tradition forward to meeting the challenges of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
